“As we create new buildings, we also need to manage existing ones better. Building surveyors carry out a variety of tasks including project management, giving legal and technical advice, creating building surveys and reports, conservation and get involved with design of new buildings too!
One of my favourite parts of the job is exploring the science behind the materials we use.”

Here’s an example of a project Willem is working on, a £2.4million development of 31,000 square feet. It’s a multi-use industrial site that, once finished, is likely to be used by a car parts company, a distributor or a wholesaler.
