We’ve been celebrating Volunteers Week! We are so grateful for our fantastic team of volunteers who are so supportive, as well as our wonderful trustees. Over the last few years, we have grown the number of Lightyear volunteers to 65. These volunteers come from a variety of ages and backgrounds and even locations around the world. Our team includes students studying medicine and childhood studies to professionals working in STEMM and people wanting to stay active in retirement.
We consider volunteering to be a learning and development opportunity. Just as our volunteers give something back to the young people we support, we hope we give them something back too. We provide opportunities for our volunteers that will enable them to develop new skills while supporting us.
As part of this, we provide robust training and ongoing support to ensure the quality of our work and a positive volunteering experience. For example, this year we released a volunteer training video for those participating in our sessions. We also filmed and released a series of videos teaching basic Makaton signs to aid better communication in our sessions and the community.
From Sensory Science experiments, to phenomenal fundraisers, we appreciate all you do for Lightyear! Thank you!
